TOPIC

The human egg trade, cloning, and market eugenics

California is leading the world in biotechnological developments, a lead that accelerated with the passage in 2004 of Proposition 71, the California Stem Cell Research Initiative; but California remains the Wild West in terms of regulation and oversight of reproductive and bio technologies. Problematic implications include the emergence of market eugenics, human reproductive cloning and the increasing demand for large numbers of women's eggs. Come and hear a stimulating presentation and discussion with medical sociologist Diane Beeson and historian of bioethics and biotechnology, Tina Stevens, regarding what biotechnological developments portend for our human future.
