People of all political stripes are encouraged to attend. These events will be about green values in general.
SPEAKERWilson Riles was a member of the Oakland City Council from 1979 to 1992, and served as the Pacific Mountain Regional Director of the American Friends Service Committee for ten years. He ran for Mayor of Oakland against Jerry Brown in 2002, and then became Principal of Oakland's High School for Social Justice. In 2006 he was a member of the Aimee Allison for Oakland City Council campaign team, and he is currently active in our recently-formed Greens of Color group.
More on Wilson Riles TOPICAmerican Empire, ecological wisdom, and the Green Party Thers is an exciting new book out called: "The American Empire and The Fourth World" by Anthony J. Hall. The book includes an analysis like that given by Naomi Klein recently on Democracy Now but takes the concept back to 1492 and highlights - and situates - the American Revolution as a Turning Point - or phase shift - into the period of rapacious global capitalism. Western cultural imperialism, White Supremacy (US racism), class-ism, patriarchy, and the acceleration of the destruction of biodiversity are all there - along with the Judeo-Christian based concept of 'manifest destiny.'
The Green Party is in the midst of a huge historical opportunity to be the crucible for the amalgamation of these concepts. Evening Schedule 7.30pm to 7.50pm. Advancing green values.
